Mine Is the Night by Liz Curtis Higgs

About a year ago I read and reviewed Here Burns My Candle by Liz Curtis Higgs. I absolutely fell in love with the Ms. Curtis Higgs' book based on the Biblical story of Ruth and Naomi.

I was tickled pink to hear there was a sequel to the first book coming out in Spring of 2011, Mine is the Night . I did a happy dance (really) when I got the email advising me I had won a copy of this book through Library Thing Early Reviewer!

Many thanks to Library Thing and Waterbrook Multnomah for sending this book to me to review.

Mine Is the Night

by Liz Curtis Higgs

ISBN: 9781400070022

Categories: Fiction - Christian - Historical

One of my absolute favorite genres to read is historical fiction and Ms. Curtis Higgs is a master at writing wonderful books that draw me into the past as well as into the story, move me emotionally and keep me reading till the end of the book without wanting to stop!

What did I like about this book?

I loved the story, the writing style and how wonderfully the author brought 1746 Scotland to life. I was enthralled the entire time I read this beautiful and deeply moving story. At the end of the book I had to blink my eyes and get centered back in 2011!

I also loved that that the characters were realistic, fully developed and I thoroughly enjoyed how each of them wove in and out of each other's lives, creating a tapestry of story telling that brought Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz to life.

What was my favorite character?

I was drawn to Elizabeth of course and thoroughly related and liked her but my favorite character of this story was Marjory Kerr, Elizabeth's MIL. I can't rightly say why without giving away the plot and I don't want to do that. Let's just say I was touched and astounded at how her story unfolds!

How would I rate this book?

5 Stars ~ I loved it!

That's pretty cool that you won a copy of this book. Years ago in Germany (around 1997) Liz came to speak and she asked how many of us were pregnant in the audience and when we were due. later on she told us whoever was closest to Christmas won her new childrens Christmas book. I was due Dec. 25 so I won the book. I love it and everything she has written since. PS I had the baby Dec. 20.
