A Plain and Sweet Christmas Romance Collection!

  • Publisher: Barbour Books (September 1, 2016)
  • ISBN-10: 1634097815
  • ISBN-13: 978-1634097819

Enjoy a simple Christmas, sweetened by love, in historical communities of plain faith people. Four romances develop among the Ohio River Valley Quakers of the mid-1800s. Two Mennonite couples face influences from outside their old traditions. Two Amish couples from the early 1900s are affected by world events. And in an Amana community, childhood sweethearts are reunited. Each story also includes a recipe for a sweet traditional treat.

One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is to read a few Christmas romances as a treat for myself. This year I chose to read A Plain and Sweet Christmas Romance Collection

The stories are full of the plain faith, community, love and the spirit of Christmas. With authors such as Melanie Dobson, Lauralee Bliss, Ramona Cecil, Diane Christner, Jerry Eicher, Olivia Newport, Rachael Phillips, Claire Sanders and Anna Shmidt .... how could it not be a wonderful Christmas read!

I highly recommend A Plain and Sweet Christmas Romance Collection and I plan on visiting these enchanting stories again and again throughout the year to keep the Christmas spirit alive all year long.

5 Stars!

Newton and Polly: A Novel of Amazing Grace by Jody Hedlund

  • Publisher: WaterBrook (September 20, 2016)
  • ISBN-10: 1601427646
  • ISBN-13: 978-1601427649

Now remembered as the author of the world’s most famous hymn, in the mid-eighteenth century as England and France stand on the brink of war, John Newton is a young sailor wandering aimlessly through life. His only duty is to report to his ship and avoid disgracing his father—until the night he hears Polly Catlett’s enchanting voice, caroling. He’s immediately smitten and determined to win her affection.

An intense connection quickly forms between the two, but John’s reckless spirit and disregard for the Christian life are concerns for the responsible, devout Polly. When an ill-fated stop at a tavern leaves John imprisoned and bound, Polly must choose to either stand by his side or walk out of his life forever. Will she forfeit her future for the man she loves?

Step back through the pages of history, to uncover the true love story behind a song that continues to stir the hearts and ignite the faith of millions around the globe.

Amazing Grace is one of my favorite hymns and when I came across Newton and Polly: A Novel of Amazing Grace by Jodi Hedlund, I snapped it up and couldn't wait to read it. While this book is a fictional account of John Newton's life and romance with Polly Cattlet, the story is based on true facts of both of their lives.

As always, Ms. Hedlund did a superb job with this story. The plot was creative, captivating  and filled with some surprising twists and turns. I found the characters and this story to be compelling!

I came away from reading Newton and Polly with the glow of reading a wonderful romance story and a much deeper appreciation and understanding of the hymn, Amazing Grace.  I highly recommend reading this book!

Soar Like Eagles by Terri Wangard ~ A Celebrit Blog Tour

  • Publisher: Celebrate Lit
  • Publication Date: December 2, 2016
  • Sold by: Amazon Digital Services LLC
  • ASIN: B01M4OD0V9

Carol becomes a Red Cross doughnut girl, serving GIs and boosting their morale. Convinced wartime romances are doomed to disappointment, she attempts to avoid entanglements. She didn’t plan on Chet, the navigator who tempts her to throw caution to the wind.

Chet’s father and brothers always belittled him. As a squadron lead navigator, he longs to prove them wrong. He’s already been offered a terrific job with PanAm after the war. First he must survive his combat tour. Will he even have a future?

Soar Like Eagles is a wonderful historical fiction novel full of romance and faith. This historical fiction story is full of realistic characters and a plot that just jumped off the pages when I started reading it.

While this book is part of a series, it can be enjoyed as a stand alone book as well. I really, really enjoyed this book!

Surround Me by Marguerite Martin Gray Blog Tour

  • Publisher: WestBowPress
  • ISBN-10: 1512755117
  • ISBN-13: 978-1512755114

As the dark curtain of the rumors of revolution threatens to descend, Louis Lestarjette pursues his relationship with Elizabeth even as the emotional and physical struggles set the course for a life of changes. Will his commitment to God stay firm, or will the tide of change cause fear and flight?
The chance of reconciliation with England moves further out to sea, leaving Elizabeth Elliott on the shores of surrender to a greater challenge. Although others of unwavering courage give her strength, she must choose to allow God's love to surround her. How can she enter into a marriage during a time of uncertainty? Will selfish, safer options take her away from Louis and his love?
Set in 1773 Charles Town, Surround Me, the sequel to Hold Me Close, takes the reader into the lives of colonists confronting imminent change and unpredictable circumstances binding them together to become a formidable force.

If you love historical  Christian romances filled with drama, action, and romance ~ this book is right up your alley!

As I read Surround Me, I was immediately immersed in colonial life set in 1773 Charles Town. I followed the story of Elizabeth and Louis as they face choices of faith, love and the threat of imminent war.  I found this story to be enchanting and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Christmas Lights: A Potpourri of Light Christmas Reads From Four of Your Favorite Authors

Amazon best-selling authors Chautona Havig and Vikki Kestell join debuting authors Cathe Swanson and April Hayman to present Christmas Lights, a collection of four Christmas-themed novellas. From historical romance to contemporary cozy mysteries and Christmas wonder, these four "light" reads will warm your heart and ignite your Christmas spirit!

The Heart of Joy (Vikki Kestell): Joy Michaels, grieving mother and widow, resides in an aging but remarkable Denver home known locally as Palmer House: a most extraordinary refuge for young women rescued from prostitution. Joy and her mother, Rose Thoresen, share the responsibilities of ministering to and mentoring the young women who live under Palmer House’s roof.

But now Joy faces an agonizing decision: Remain true to the memory of her first love or open her heart to the possibility of new love? And she wonders, “Can true, enduring love happen twice in a lifetime?”

Snow Angels (Cathe Swanson): When Lisa Marsh is roped into serving Thanksgiving dinner at the local community center, she meets lively teenagers, stubbornly independent veterans, eccentric elderly people, and one particularly rude and scruffy homeless man named Pete. She sets out to find him a decent job and make him respectable—whether he likes it or not—but her small project of helping Pete snowballs into an extraordinary Christmas ministry. And the vagabond can be very charming when he wants to be...

Trip the Light Fantastic (April Hayman): Lance “Trip” Devereaux is an FBI agent tasked with the nearly impossible job of tailing and, hopefully, arresting Landry Crawford, the wiliest conman east of the Mississippi River. But during his investigation, things go horribly wrong for the klutzy G-man. Will Trip nab his man in time for Christmas? Or will he be left out in the cold?

Christmas Stalkings (Chautona Havig): Wendy Nabity is known for her superfluity of cats and her “seven-tree obsession” every Christmas—but when strange things happen around her house, it appears someone is out to get her! Revel in comedy, suspense, and a garnish of romance.

Christmas Lights  is a collection of four Christmas novellas and just perfect for starting off the Christmas season! Each novella is a stand alone book and I can honestly share I enjoyed each and every one of them.  I highly recommend this wonderful collection stories!
