Rose Island Lighthouse, Rhode Island June 1880 Will she betray his trust to stay on the island she loves? Abbie Watson is content to spend her days clamming, crabbing, and tending Rose Island Lighthouse. Her grandpa is the head light keeper, but his senility may lead to their eviction. Since leaving the island would kill her beloved Gramps, Abbie will do anything to keep him in the one place he knows and loves.

Wealthy Nathaniel Winthrop III’s wild living has gained him a reputation as the ‘bad boy’ among the elite social circles of Newport. After a blow to the head in a yachting accident washes him up on Rose Island, Nathaniel has no memories of his past. Abbie tends the wounded stranger in her home only to realize he assumes they’re married.

Although she knows she needs to correct Nathaniel’s mistake, his presence calms Gramps and provides a way to prevent eviction from the lighthouse. The longer the charade continues, the harder it gets for Abbie to tell Nathaniel the truth, more so as she begins to fall in love.

Everyone she’s ever loved has abandoned her. Will Nathaniel leave her too, once he discovers he’s not really her husband?

Never Forget by Jody Hedlund is a beautiful faith-based, Christian romance  that will bring tears to your eyes and warmth to your heart. Although it is the 5th and final book in the Beacons of Hope series, it can definitely be read as a stand alone novel.  This book is wonderful and I highly recommend it.

The Ethan I Was Before by Ali Standish

  • Grade Level: 3 - 7
  • ISBN-10: 0062433385

Life can be transformed in one moment, but does that one moment define you for life?
Lost in the Sun meets The Thing About Jellyfish in Ali Standish’s breathtaking debut. A poignant middle grade novel of friendship and forgiveness, The Ethan I Was Before is a classic in the making.
Ethan had been many things. He was always ready for adventure and always willing to accept a dare, especially from his best friend, Kacey. But that was before. Before the accident that took Kacey from him. Before his family moved from Boston to the small town of Palm Knot, Georgia.
Palm Knot may be tiny, but it’s the home of possibility and second chances. It’s also home to Coralee, a girl with a big personality and even bigger stories. Coralee may be just the friend Ethan needs, except Ethan isn’t the only one with secrets. Coralee’s are catching up with her, and what she’s hiding might be putting both their lives at risk.

The Ethan I was Before by Ali Standish is an amazing debut novel for this author.  This book just blew me away when I read it!

It had me enthralled from page 1 through the very last page. The plot was excellent - leaving tidbits of who Ethan was before in each chapter. Even after you find out about the "event" that changed Ethan, there still is further suspense  up to the very. last. chapter.

The story flowed really well, keeping the suspense building till the final chapter. The characters were humanly flawed, broken and endearing in their attempts to forgive, heal and move on with their lives.

The Ethan I Was Before truly is about love and loss, hope and redemption. I loved this book and highly recommend it for everyone - regardless of age. That's how good this book is!

Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson

  • Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books

Mary B. Addison killed a baby.
Allegedly. She didn’t say much in that first interview with detectives, and the media filled in the only blanks that mattered: a white baby had died while under the care of a churchgoing black woman and her nine-year-old daughter. The public convicted Mary and the jury made it official. But did she do it?
There wasn’t a point to setting the record straight before, but now she’s got Ted—and their unborn child—to think about. When the state threatens to take her baby, Mary’s fate now lies in the hands of the one person she distrusts the most: her Momma. No one knows the real Momma.

But does anyone know the real Mary?

Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson is not the typical type of book I pick up to read but the premise of this book caught my eye and snagged my interest. I just had to find out what this book was all about.

While this book, for me is of a more darker nature than I usually care to read, the plot had me absolutely spellbound. The characters were so real and so heartbreaking,  I never saw the twists and turns of this story coming and they truly blew. me. away!

When I finished reading Allegedly, I came away from it with an unsettling, disturbed feeling and knowing this book will be staying with me for quite awhile.

My final take on this book? Ms. Jackson did a superb job in creating/writing this story and it is so worth the reading!

The Angel of Forest Hill: An Amish Christmas Romance by Cindy Woodsmall

  • ISBN-10: 1601427050
  • ISBN-13: 978-1601427052
  • Publisher: WaterBrook (October 4, 2016)

When Old Order Amish Rose Kurtz is asked to leave her family, travel deep into West Virginia, and help Joel Dienner with his children in the wake of tragedy, the quiet young woman recognizes a home where she might find kindness instead of criticism and hope replacing harsh words. She agrees to stay in Forest Hill and become Joel’s wife for the sake of his family needs, but their marriage is to be a partnership, one built from need, not love and affection.
As the years pass, Rose continues to beckon Joel to join life again, to take joy in his growing children, and to awaken his heart to the possibility of new love. Joel hopes that Rose can move beyond deep-rooted hurts to see the beautiful Christmas ahead, their season. But will the arrival of a beautiful widow and a series of misunderstandings reverse how far Rose and Joel have come?

The Angel of Forest Hill by Cindy Woodsmall was the perfect way to end a wonderful season of Christmas romance reading. I've enjoyed reading Ms. Woodsmall's Amish romance novels for quite some time and this book is one of her best!

This story is full of Amish life, romance, Christmas and faith. The opening chapter was a bit shocking and written in  such a way that I had to read this book through till the end. I couldn't bring myself to put it down!

I found the plot to be compelling with engaging characters.  Rose (of course) was my favorite and I cried, laughed, agonized and cheered her on throughout this amazing story.  I highly recommend reading The Angel of Forest Hill

An Amish Family Christmas by Shelley Shepard Gray

  • ISBN-10: 0062337866
  • ISBN-13: 978-0062337863
  • Publisher: Avon Inspire (October 18, 2016)

Ever since his father died in a tragic fire, Levi Kinsinger has felt adrift. Newly returned to Charm, Ohio, Levi is trying to fit into his old life, only to discover he seems to have outgrown it.
But when Julia, his young widowed neighbor, asks for his help with a Christmas project, Levi finds a sense of purpose for the first time in months. She and her daughter are new to Charm and could use a friend, a job Levi takes personally. Soon enough, friendship grows into attraction, but Levi can’t help having doubts. There’s something about Julia that doesn’t ring quite true…

Like Levi, Julia Kemps has survived her fair share of hardships—but only by hiding the truth of her past. Being an unmarried mother in an Amish community was unthinkable. Feeling hopeless, Julia did the only thing she could do: she moved to a new town and pretended to be a widow. But meeting Levi, she’s hopeful for the first time. Little by little, she begins to imagine telling him her darkest secret, and eventually…perhaps even sharing her life with him.
Christmas is a time for family, and as the holiday draws closer, Julia and Levi will have to face their pasts together … in order to find the healing, support and love they so desperately desire.

Ms. Gray is a gifted author and I read An Amish Family Christmas  without once wanting to put it down!  It has a great plot, wonderful characters and an Amish Christmas romance that warmed my heart and left me with a big goofy smile after reading it.

I truly enjoyed this wonderful romance by Shelley Shepard Gray. It's well worth the reading any time of the year!
