Synopsis
{Ama*zon}

Skylar Cruz found her sister in the Real World—only to learn that her sister has betrayed her and put everyone in the App World in danger. The Body Market is now open for business and everyone still plugged into the App World is for sale.
Shaken by the betrayal of everyone she trusted, Skylar is through being a pawn. She may be the only one who can stop what her family started. And she has to do it before the App World runs out of time.

The Body Market by Donna Freitas is the second book in the Wired Series. While this book can be a stand alone read (and a good story all by itself), I really do recommend reading it as a series to capture the full essence of this series.

The Body Market picks up where Unplugged, the first book  leaves off and the story is a show stopper! The writing quality is well though out, clear and concise. The plot moves smoothly as the story unfolds.  Ms. Freitas did an excellent job in world-building ~ the imagery she writes brings the world to vivid life.

The characters are engaging and as I read this story, it was an emotional roller coaster ride.  The only reason it took me a few days to read this book was that I really wanted to savor the experience and real life kept clamoring in and had to be taken care of. 😖

If you haven't had the chance to read The Body Market and Unplugged, I highly recommend it. Book three in this series, The Mind Virus is due out on 12/26/17 and I can't wait to read it!

  • Why this book?

I can't wait to read this series!

I have the first and second books in my TBR pile and have eagerly been waiting for the release of the third book so I can read them all back to back. Some series I read and wait a year for the sequels to be released but I knew I couldn't wait that long between reading this series  so I chose to put off reading it till all the books were released.

Quirky? Yes, but there is something about diving into a series and going from one book to the last.  There's no loss of momentum, no need to review the prior book and no waiting.

What books are  you waiting for and how do you like to read your book series ~ one at a time or all at once?

Synopsis

When Connor Larkin boards a late night bus in downtown LA, he’s not sure where he’s going or what he’s looking for. Putting his acting career—and his fiancée —on hold, he’s searching for something he can’t define, a part of himself he lost on the road to success. Once he dreamed of being a singer in the classic style of Sinatra and Bennett. But his lean good looks soon landed him in movies as the sexy “bad guy”—and in the arms of a famous young heiress. Now, with his wedding day approaching, Connor finds himself stepping into the sleepy seaside town of Miramar Bay—where one remarkable woman inspires him to rethink all of his choices…

She needed to know his secrets, and to see if he’d tell her the truth.

Sylvie Cassick is nothing like the pretentious starlets back in Hollywood. The daughter of a nomadic painter, she’s had to work hard for everything—unlike Connor’s fiancée. When Connor hears familiar music drifting out of Sylvie’s restaurant, he feels as if he’s finally come home. Sylvie isn’t sure what to think when this impossibly handsome stranger applies for a waiter’s job. Yet once he serenades her customers—and slowly works his way into her heart—she realizes there’s more to him than he’s letting on. And Connor realizes he’s found his destiny. But as the outside world encroaches, threatening their fragile bond, Connor will have to risk losing everything to gain the life he longs for, and be the man Sylvie deserves.

Filled with bittersweet longing, Miramar Bay is an unforgettable journey through doubt and desire—to the truth that can be discovered along the road less taken.

I fell in love with the cover of Miramar Bay the minute I saw it. All those warm golds and blues are just gorgeous and the book is just as gorgeous as it's cover!

Miramar Bay  by Davis Bunn is a wonderfully written, engaging romance steeped in family, friends, Faith and love. The story is well written and emotionally moving. The characters realistic and the plot romantic and suspenseful.

I enjoyed a relaxing evening reading this lovely book and I look forward to reading more of Mr. Bunn's other works!

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi

  • Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin (March 28, 2017)
  • ISBN-10: 1250085497
  • ISBN-13: 978-1250085498

Release Date ~ March 28, 2017

Synopsis

Gauri, the princess of Bharata, has been taken as a prisoner of war by her kingdom’s enemies. Faced with a future of exile and scorn, Gauri has nothing left to lose. Hope unexpectedly comes in the form of Vikram, the cunning prince of a neighboring land and her sworn enemy kingdom. Unsatisfied with becoming a mere puppet king, Vikram offers Gauri a chance to win back her kingdom in exchange for her battle prowess. Together, they’ll have to set aside their differences and team up to win the Tournament of Wishes – a competition held in a mythical city where the Lord of Wealth promises a wish to the victor.
Reaching the tournament is just the beginning. Once they arrive, danger takes on new shapes: poisonous courtesans and mischievous story birds, a feast of fears and twisted fairy revels.
Every which way they turn new trials will test their wit and strength. But what Gauri and Vikram will soon discover is that there’s nothing more dangerous than what they most desire.

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi is one of the books I was eagerly waiting to read!  I was a bit worried about reading this book without having read it's predecessor but I quickly found out that this book can easily be read as a stand alone novel.

There's been so much about this book all over the blog world that I've decided to just highlight the reasons why I truly enjoyed this book:

The Characters

Gauri, a noteworthy heroine who is powerful, strong, hard on the outside and soft on the inside. Humanly fallible but her hearts in the right place.

Vikram, a dreamy Hero who is dashing, bumbling at times, intelligent, humanly flawed and noteworthy in his own right.

The Hate to Love relationship between Gauri and Vikram had me captivated.

The Plot

Oh, such a wonderful plot full of action and intrigue!  Full of magic, mayhem, quests, romance, prizes and so much more. It was wonderful to read this book and feel mythology come to life!

The Writing

I found Ms. Chokshi's prose for this book to be magical, luscious and even lyrical!  At times {for me} it tended to get a bit overwhelming but I still truly enjoyed reading this book!

There were more than a handful of quotes from the book that are deeply moving and full of beauty, power and grace.  I found it quite impressive to  observe, read and contemplate the unique way Ms. Choksi writes blending thoughts and fantasy into words and imbuing them with such meaning, emotion and power.

Final Impressions

A Crown of Wishes is a fantastical tale that is superbly written, emotionally moving and  a jewel of a book!  I can't wait to read more of Ms. Chokshi's books!

I received this book for free. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own. Thank you to St. Martin's Griffin Publishing, Ms. Chokshi and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Treasured Grace by Tracie Peterson

  • Series: Heart of the Frontier (Book 1)
  • Publisher: Bethany House Publishers (February 28, 2017)
  • ISBN-10: 0764213407
  • ISBN-13: 978-0764213403

Synopsis

Grace Martindale has known more than her share of hardship. After her parents died, raising her two younger sisters became her responsibility. A hasty marriage to a minister who is heading to the untamed West seemed like an opportunity for a fresh start, but a cholera outbreak along the wagon trail has left Grace a widow in a very precarious position.

Having learned natural remedies and midwifery from her mother, Grace seeks an opportunity to use her skills for the benefit of others. So when she and her sisters arrive at the Whitman mission in "Oregon Country," she decides to stay rather than push on.

With the help of Alex Armistead, a French-American fur trapper, Grace begins to provide care for her neighbors, including some of the native populace. But not everyone welcomes her skills--or her presence--and soon Grace finds herself and those she loves in more danger than she imagined possible.

Searching for a wonderful book to read this Spring or Summer?

Treasured Grace is definitely one book you should consider reading!

Treasured Grace is set in the 1840s frontier and is the first of three books in Ms. Peterson's Heart of the Frontier Series.  The author's love of history and research clearly shines through in her richly detailed settings, roundly developed characters and engaging plot.

In truth, I have to say I started of reading this book expecting a feel good, clean love story of  moderate fluff.  It wasn't long into the book where I was pleasantly and strongly surprised to find this book was so much more!  Within the pages of this historical romance the author addresses woman's equality issues of that era, human prejudice based on race and religion, the effects of this country's westward expansion  as well as love, faith and so. much. more.

I fully enjoyed reading Treasured Grace and I can't wait to read the second and third book in this series!

Home At Last by Deborah Raney

  • Series: A Chicory Inn Novel (Book 5)
  • Publisher: Abingdon Press (February 21, 2017)
  • ISBN-10: 1426770480
  • ISBN-13: 978-1426770487

Synopsis

Link Whitman has settled into the role of bachelor without ever intending to. Now he's stuck in a dead-end job and, as the next Whitman wedding fast approaches, he is the last one standing. The pressure from his sisters' efforts to play matchmaker is getting hard to bear as Link pulls extra shifts at work, and helps his parents at the Chicory Inn.

All her life, Shayla Michaels has felt as if she straddled two worlds. Her mother's white family labeled her African American father with names Shayla didn't repeat in polite--well, in any company. Her father's family disapproved as well, though they eventually embraced Shayla as their own. After the death of her mother, and her brother Jerry's incarceration, life has left Shayla's father bitter, her niece, Portia, an orphan, and Shayla responsible for them all. She knows God loves them all, but why couldn't people accept each other for what was on the inside? For their hearts?

Everything changes one icy morning when a child runs into the street and Link nearly hits her with his pickup. Soon he is falling in love with the little girl's aunt, Shayla, the beautiful woman who runs Coffee's On, the bakery in Langhorne.

Can Shayla and Link overcome society's view of their differences and find true love?

Is there hope of changing the sometimes-ugly world around them into something better for them all?

I have truly enjoyed reading the Chickory Inn Novel series. Home At Last is the 5th and final book so I felt like I was saying good-bye to dear friends as I read it. Bittersweet but oh, such a wonderful book!

This book brings the story of the Whitman family full circle. It is an endearing romantic story full of faith, joy, family, overcoming challenges and well, life! Ms. Raney truly knows how to write a story and characters that come to life as her story unfolds making you wish they were your friends and neighbors.

Planning your Spring or Summer reading? Add them in or better yet- read them any time of the year.

Home At Last  and the entire series is well worth the reading!

{Review}

I am a strong proponent that  children's books are not just for children. If the story is well written (or in the case an audio version ~well written and well performed) it truly can be enjoyed by "kids of all ages". 🙋

The Wizard's Dog is definitely falls into this category!

This delightful tale had me smiling, chuckling and at times riveted to the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. I was very impressed that this novel  had quite a bit of Merlin/Arthurian lore weaved into this tale as well as humor, action, suspense and so much more. And who can resist Nosewise? I sure couldn't!

I had so much fun listening to this as an Audible audio-book The narrator, Grahm Halstead did a superb job.  I couldn't have asked for a better listening experience.  Having shared that, I still hope to soon pick up a copy of the book so I can enjoy the illustrations as well.  I'm definitely keeping this one in mind as a future gift over this year's upcoming (and future) holidays.

The Wizard's Dog is  a fantastic story and one that children, families and kids of all ages will thoroughly enjoy.

5 Stars!
